SYMPHONY TAKES LISTENERS ON A JOURNEY TO THE EDGE!

May 9, 2006

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow 326-3136

SPOKANE: The Symphony on the Edge at the Big Easy Concert Hall is sure to have your heart pounding with suspense on Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Music Director Eckart Preu and members of the Spokane Symphony will be your guides on a musical journey, leading from the emotional highs of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony to the sarcastic and grotesque depths of a Conga-Line in Hell by Del Aguila. A variety of musical textures, from the lush pieces of Haydn and Biber to the minimalist Reich are sure to enhance the stimulating voyage.

The ever-popular first movement of Daugherty's Metropolis Symphony Lex is also on the program; inspired by the 50th anniversary of Superman's first appearance in the comics, this piece will take you on a diabolical journey through Superman's complex and witty Metropolis.

While listening to this thrilling performance, listeners can indulge in refreshments available for purchase at the Big Easy. Dressed in casual jeans and polo shirts, Preu and the orchestra will break traditional boundaries. The rock-concert atmosphere is completed with concert lighting and video close-ups of the conductor and orchestra in action. This is an all-ages, non-smoking concert, presented at Spokane's premier concert house and nightclub. Parties with underage members will have a special designated seating area. Tickets are $27 each.

Tickets can be purchased in advance without a service charge at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office (818 W. Riverside, Suite 100) at 509-624-1200. Tickets are also available at all TicketsWest outlets by calling 1-800-325-SEAT, at the concierge desk at River Park Square, or online at spokanesymphony.org.

Symphony on the Edge is underwritten by Wells Fargo Bank and River Park Square.
