Morihiko Nakahara to conduct Spokane Symphony in Coeur d'Alene
SPOKANE: Associate Conductor Morihiko Nakahara will conduct the Spokane Symphony in a specially selected program of Romantic music on Saturday, March 12, at 8 p.m. in Boswell Hall-Schuller Auditorium, North Idaho College.
The evening of music from the Romantic era opens with the Beautiful Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss. The fabulously melodic Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg and Symphony No. 1 by Johannes Brahms will complete the evening of beautiful music.
Brahms' First was undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited symphony in musical history. After two decades of labor, Brahms finished the piece in 1876 and was one of Europe's most revered composers. In the Spokesman Review Travis Rivers review on February 11th's performance on Brahms work said, Performances of his work over the years have proven milestones for the Spokane Symphony and document the strengths its past conductors have brought to the orchestra. (This) performance was no exception. He noted that the orchestra brought a rich, yet precise performance.
Grieg, a romantic master of lyrical melody, was asked by Henrik Ibsen to compose incidental music for Ibsen's new drama Peer Gynt. Grieg created 23 musical numbers for the play, and by the two men's joint effort, the play premiered. Grieg promptly fashioned two suites from his dramatic score that soon rivaled his Piano Concerto in popularity. Peer Gynt is another special selection for the Coeur d' Alene audience.
This program brings more of the favorite classical music like that presented at the November concert in Coeur d' Alene.
The concert is underwritten by CCA-Art On The Green.
