Spokane –The Spokane Symphony announced today that it will take its show on the road and perform two additional Kick Back Classics concerts in Spokane neighborhoods on April 25 and 26.
The Wednesday, April 25 concert will be presented at the Base Theater on Fairchild Air Force Base at 7:00 p.m. There is no charge for this concert, but it is open for Active Duty and Retired military personnel only. This free concert is underwritten by Global Credit Union.
The Thursday, April 26 concert, while also will start at 7:00 p.m., will be presented at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Avenue, on the corner of Sullivan and East 20th. This concert is open to the entire community.
In addition to leaving their downtown home at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox to perform in neighborhood venues, the musicians of the Spokane Symphony will present a different type of performance. They will be “kicking back” and playing without a conductor – much like a chamber group but with symphonic proportions.
The Kick Back Classics program includes some crowd favorites such as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major and Handel’s Water Music Suite No. 2 in D major. The one-hour program also includes Mozart Serenade No. 6 in D major, Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and Britten’s Simple Symphony for String Orchestra. The audience can expect the unexpected and prepare to say wow at this musician-led experience.
“We are very excited about the prospect of giving the community and our orchestra a new musical experience. I know the orchestra will give the same exciting and powerful performances we present in the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. We are delighted to have the opportunity to perform at these neighborhood venues in locations convenient to new listeners,” said Music Director Eckart Preu. .
Kick Back Classics tickets for the performance at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene go on sale April 2. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the Box Office at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague or 509-624-1200, online at www.spokanesymphony.org and at the door.
