Spokane Symphony says Have Music, Will Travel

Sep 13, 2011

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow 464-7071

Spokane – Just before launching its 2011-12 season at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, the Spokane Symphony announced today that it will perform two Kick Back Classics concerts in Spokane neighborhoods on Oct. 5 and 6.

The Wednesday, Oct. 5 concert at Spokane Falls Community College Music Building, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive Building 15, will help introduce the newly renovated state-of-the-art  building to the community. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Thursday, Oct. 6 concert will be presented at Turning Point Church, 11911 N. Division at 7 p.m.

In addition to leaving their downtown home at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox to perform in neighborhood venues, the musicians of the Spokane Symphony will present a different type of performance. They will be “kicking back” and playing without a conductor – much like a chamber group but with symphonic proportions.

The Kick Back Classics program includes some crowd favorites such as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major and Handel’s Water Music Suite No. 2 in D major. The one-hour program also includes Mozart Serenade No. 6 in D major, Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and Britten’s Simple Symphony for String Orchestra. The audience can expect the unexpected and prepare to say wow at this musician-led experience.

“We are very excited about the prospect of giving the community and our orchestra a new musical experience. I know the orchestra will give the same exciting and powerful performances we present in the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. We are delighted to have the opportunity to perform at these neighborhood venues in locations convenient to new listeners,” said Music Director Eckart Preu. .

Kick Back Classics tickets go on sale Sept. 15.  Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the Box Office, 1001 W. Sprague or 509-624-1200, online at http://www.spokanesymphony/ and at the door.
