World-famous Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan celebrates the holidays with Spokane Symphony this weekend!

Nov 30, 2009

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow - 464-7071

The Spokane Symphony, under the baton of Resident Conductor Morihiko Nakahara, will kick off the season with three performances of the Holiday Pops held the first December weekend: Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Audiences will enjoy all the traditions of the Holiday Pops - the majestic sounds of the Spokane Symphony Chorale, the orchestra playing a fabulous selection of festive music, old and new, the popular Sing-Along, and of course, a visit from Santa.

This year, we will also bring you an extra-special treat: the amazing voice of famed Irish tenor Ronan Tynan singing a selection of his seasonal favorites, ranging from "O Holy Night" to "Winter Wonderland." Introduced to international audiences as a member of the Irish Tenors, Tynan quickly became known for his unique voice and irresistible appeal, best known for singing “Amazing Grace” and Schubert’s “Ave Maria” at the funeral of President Ronald Reagan, and performing “God Bless America” at Yankee Stadium.

Following his mother’s advice to always follow your dreams, Tynan decided to launch his highly successful solo career, pursuing it with the same passion and dedication that allowed him to earn 18 gold medals and 14 world records in the Paralympics, became the first disabled person ever admitted to the National College of Physical Education, and graduate from the prestigious Trinity College as a full-fledged medical doctor, specializing in orthopedic sports injuries.

The Spokane Symphony Chorale will be featured in several selections, including Herman’s We Need a Little Christmas and Seasonal Sounds by Bass, and leading the audience in our ever popular sing-along. The Chorale is a volunteer organization led by Dr. Julián Gómez Giraldo, Director of Orchestras at EasternWashingtonUniversity, and has been an official entity of the Spokane Symphony since 1978.

Tickets are $27 to $54 for the Saturday evening concerts and $24 to $39 for the Friday and Sunday performances. Tickets for children 12 and under may attend the Friday and Sunday performances for $14.  Tickets are available in advance at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office, located at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague, or by calling 509-624-1200. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.spokanesymphony.org and are also available at all TicketsWest outlets.
