The Spokane Symphony weaves a magical carpet-ride of music with visuals in The Magical Music of Walt Disney, a special, family-friendly concert of Disney favorites. Led by associate conductor Morihiko Nakahara, the symphony will present the fabulous collection of music for generations on Friday May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.
The program will feature orchestral arrangements of music from “Tarzan,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Hercules,” “Mary Poppins,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Rescuers Down Under,” “Aladdin,” “Mulan,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “The Lion King.” The music will be brought to life by seamlessly synchronized video clips and still images from these Disney classics. Famous scenes such as the ballroom dance from Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin’s magic carpet ride will be accompanied by orchestral arrangements of Disney melodies.
The visuals will also include iconic stills that spotlight the intricate details that may have been missed while watching the original motion pictures. Included in these stills are preliminary character sketches and images that inspired the Disney animators as they created the films. This concert is the perfect blend of a nostalgic visit to childhood memories and a peek into the creative process the produced some of Disney’s most popular films.
In its 70-year history, Disney has collaborated with some of the biggest names in film and popular music including composers Hans Zimmer, Elton John, Phil Collins, Alan Menken and Jerry Goldsmith. These collaborations have created timeless classics such as A Whole New World, Be Our Guest, Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Under the Sea to name a few. With its combination of memorable music and captivating images, “The Magical Music of Disney” promises to enchant audience members of all ages.
