For Immediate Release
Contact: Annie Matlow
SPOKANE - Sandi Patty will open the Spokane Symphony SuperPops series on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Spokane Opera House with selections from her American Songbook as well as Hymns of Faith and Songs of Inspiration.
The Symphony's popular associate conductor Morihiko Nakahara will conduct the opening portion of the concert with That's Entertainment A Tribute to MGM Studios, Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael, selections from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and On the Town by Leonard Bernstein.
As a 2004 Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, Patty's illustrious career includes 39 Dove Awards, five Grammy Awards and four Billboard Music Awards, making her the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history. Her projects have sold more than 11 million copies, generating three RIAA-certified platinum and five gold recordings. During the past quarter-century, she has performed everywhere from Billy Graham Crusades to the Indianapolis 500, Camp David to Disneyland, presidential inaugurations to the Fiesta Bowl.
It cannot be overlooked that Patty has accomplished what she has for one reason: that voice. Patty's stunning, multi-octave scaling instrument has drawn acclaim as one of the great American voices of our time. Patty found somewhat unexpected recognition in mainstream society after her soaring rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" on ABC's broadcast of the Statue of Liberty rededication overwhelmed the network's switchboard with calls inquiring who this woman was! Patty became one of the most interesting "crossover" success stories in Christian music history.
In support of the release of a new two-CD Hymns of Faith and Songs of Inspiration, Patty is on a 35-concert tour this fall that began in Nashville on Sept. 12, and hitting other major markets across the nation such as Grand Rapids, Orlando, Spokane, Houston, Cincinnati, Atlanta and more.
Tickets range from $17 to $38 and are available Monday through Friday from 9:30-5:00 p.m. at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office at 818 West Riverside Avenue or by calling (509) 624-1200.
